Thoughts
been ages since i blogged. miss the times when i had the time, the luxury and most importantly, the content to blog. i doubt anyone is truly interested about gels, polymer, stress, entropy, hydrogen bonding, validation.... ie. my FYP!!! which is practically what i do everyday, in addition to lessons and other projects.
but luckily there's always something nice or something to look forward to once in a while, so i guess it's still a pretty ok first 2 weeks of the final sem for me.
had some thoughts recently. thought i might just summarise it here since i haven't been blogging for ages.
overseas workbeen wondering if i would agree to take up overseas work if given a chance. a lot definitely depends on the duration of the overseas work and where it would be based in. a few years back i would have readily agreed without hesistation. back then, all i craved for was freedom and getting to see the world. even if it meant being away from friends and family. being able to absorb the cultures, scenery, life beats staying in singapore like a tiny toad in a well. i wanted to enrich myself with the different experiences i felt i could only get abroad. applied for overseas universities even with my dear mum's objections. back then i was a tad more rebellious and carefree i guess... didn't even give a thought about how i was even going to survive a four-year education overseas, not knowing how to cook, wash clothes, basically not knowing how to take good care of myself.
maybe it was a blessing in disguise that i didn't get to go. at least i didn't miss knowing all the wonderful friends i know in NUS.
ok i shall not digress. i've changed much more than i think i did in these four years. now if i were posed the same question, i would hesistate. somehow the stakes have upped. somehow i find leaving friends and family here as a much bigger sacrifice to make for going abroad. maybe its the realization of how blessed i am yet the idea that these blessings may not last forever.
on the other hand, it is also leaving a comfort zone that's troubling me. it seems that the older i get, the more tired i am of having to adapt to new situations. although that's precisely what i should learn to do according to my HR tutor haha..
ok.. i'm starting to sound like i'm really presented with an opportunity to work overseas now.. when it's all just a hypothetical question hehe..
i really think too much sometimes.
research workalways thought i will never like research work. it always seem to me something that needs lotsa determination, persistence, patience and at the end of the day, one may even reap no results no matter how much effort he has put in.
my fyp has put a new light to research work. while thinking about the demerits of it i have successfully neglected the merits of doing research work. besides the great sense of satisfaction should everything work out fine, research work actually lay the grounds for the development of many applications. it is important to be able to apply but without all the fundamentals normally derived from research work, there will be no high tech machinery, newly found materials etc. i see how noble research work is and researchers are.
seeing how the service industry has taken over the manufacturing sector, there might be a day when research work becomes the next big thing.
just some boring thoughts of mine. till then ~
