Theoretical FYP
how do i know whether i understood something if i don't even know what i am supposed to understand in the first place??? =S
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
been hearing so much about certain experimental and computational FYPs done by my friends, acquaintances, friends' friends etc... ok i know i shouldn't complain already as there are many others suffering much worse FYP fate than me...just allow me to enlighten you all how it is like to do a chemical engineering theoretical FYP (although mine is half theoretical half computational. haven't reached the computational part tho).
when you do a chem engin theoretical FYP:
1) you revisit all or some intimidating/irritating/disgusting theories that you thought are supposed to remain in your past...
eg. navier stokes, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, kinetics.
sigh~
2) you actually own a detailed and updated Excel database of all the various reading materials (books, articles, journals...) you have.
speaking of which, i haven't updated mine yet oops.
3) you find yourself surfing NUS LINC, National Library Board, Engineering Village every other day.
4) you learn all the different forms of typing what you want in google or yahoo so that you get what you want.
5) your number of reading materials increases everyday but never seem to decrease. *think of an upward slopping curve... yea, u get the idea*
ok... maybe that's because i'm slack haha...
6) you need much more self discipline than you ever need in your 3 years in uni.
in my opinion at least.
7) you start to learn how to zap double sided/ 2 pages on one page etc so that you can save a bit from all the zapping.
8) you become the central library and science library's regular customer.
i haven't reached that stage tho =p
9) you actually learn that you can borrow up to 15 books for 28 days from NUS's libraries as a Year 4 student!
Talk about privileges hehe..
haha that's about all i can think of or have experienced up till now. all in all it feels like taking a FYP4001 where there are no lecture notes being spoonfed to me. in fact, i find my own lecture notes, try to understand them, probably have to initiate consultations myself, may have to give powerpoint presentations monthly on what i have understood (provided i did understand something).
and guess what...
its only Week 2 of sem 7.
