fun @ lab =)
been in the lab department for about a week already. although i'm still not used to the environment, the people, the break timings and etc and etc, i'm starting to feel glad at this new opportunity to learn new things. after watching my upperstudy do her lab tests for a few days (yes.. i just stand there and watch. and occasionally she will allow me to help her wash her apparatus or fill up distilled water), and after i was about to believe that the rest of my IA would be spent watching the progress of various tests.. i got a new assignment!
its a kind of research project, which i wouldn't say is easy. was a bit stressed at first as i couldn't really understand what they wanted me to do. the lab manager even said that i could try out anything i want in the lab. i was like... huh~ i haven't like touched anything in the lab before (unless u consider the beakers and bottles of distilled water) how can i ever do an experiment myself..hmm..
anyway i did my research and informed the senior lab technician about it this afternoon. without hesistation, she just brought me to the lab and "handed" the whole lab to me! heez... i was abit scared at first cos the acids i'm supposed to use are quite toxic plus i din really know how to use many things in there. still it was pretty exciting to be able to prepare a whole experiment myself, from how much of what acid to pipette to what pH the titration should be done until.
heez~ was a happy girl this afternoon =)
speaking of pH. was so paiseh lor... i was putting the electrode into my acidic solution. but the pH read 6.66. weird, i thought. so i decided to test the pH of water. it was still 6.66. and then sodium hydroxide. but still it registers 6.66.
i concluded that the meter was spoiled and went to ask the senior lab tech for help. she was quite shocked to hear that it was spoiled and upon reaching the lab she realised that i didn't even take the cover off the electrode when measuring the pH!
oops~ =p
she asked (a bit disbelievingly), "you never use a pH meter before meh??"
well.. but it's true mah. indeed i have never used it before what.
still, really enjoyed having the whole lab to myself today. hehz
